Comparing living and working as a Medical Resident in Germany and Switzerland
For sure Germany and Switzerland are among the most attractive countries for young doctors, especially when it comes to pursuing a Medical Residency.
As a Recruitment Firm we often get questions about the working conditions, salaries, living costs, etc. and very often we were asked which country is the better choice? As you can see in the above mentioned graphic, it is not that easy to give a 100% answer which scenario is more suitable or more attractive for the doctors. Of course there are many more aspects to check instead of just looking at the net salary.
Having successfully supported over 800 candidates starting in these countries, it is a very individual question and in order to make the best decision, you have to think also long-term. For instance, in Germany you may receive less net salary but in the best case even 10 more days of paid holiday. How much worth is it for you to get 10 more paid holidays per year? Another important point is of course, especially at the beginning, how much budget do you have on the side in order to take with you for the new start? Renting a place in Switzerland and paying up to 3 rents on day 1, before even have received a first salary might be a problem.
Just a few examples how much sense it makes to get in touch with an experienced Recruiter who can guide you through all the way.
